Hood River Preparing for Busy Summer Season
Over the years, wind, rain and natural occurances have
caused the rock jetty's in Hood River to need repair. Now with workers finishing up the
last phases which has been in the works for a couple years, those that are
accustomed to the events in the area know that this will draw more tourists and
outdoor activities come Summer.
Protecting the beach is always of great concern and the heavy foot traffic
that draws in the Summer is what city officials prepare for ahead of time.
The east jetty is probably the most used and needs to be stable.
Each area along the waterfront has been granted funds for upkeep, repairs,
renovations and preparations. The Marina will get about $3,000 for a new key
lock system on their gates and The spit has been granted funds for cleaning up
the area. Parking is something that has also been addressed in the Hood
River area as more visitors will need places for boat trailers,
campers, RV's and those enjoying the beaches during the summer months. Ideas are
still being generated for how to support the parking situation including metered
parking instead of actual staff. Thoughts on making street parking
outside the Event Site short term (maybe 90-minutes) to encourage all-day users
to park in the Event Site or the spit; and to offer early discounts on season
parking passes to encourage more locals to buy them.
Hood River is an amazing place to visit during the Summer.
With kiteboarding, boating, fishing, camping, hiking, swimming and dozens of
other outdoor activities there is always something to keep you occupied no
matter if you are 2 or 92. The Hood River area support local residents and
visitors to the area each year offering hotels, reorts, campgrounds and dining
and shopping amenities.
